This past Saturday was the second of three 2-slot qualifying RCQs for the Season 4 Round 1 batch of Regional Championships for Magic the Gathering. Featuring the Modern format, we had 29 players vying for their chance to take the step to the next level and represent themselves this Fall at either SCGCON Houston or SCGCON Las Vegas. After 5 rounds of Swiss and a few knockout round for the quarter and semifinals, we had our 2 qualifying players.

Ethan Wallace is a long time regular and even former employee of Owl Central Games. He’s known for playing UW Control and his deck choice was no different today with him locking up an invite with the power of combo stopping Orim’s Chant. His day featured only 1 loss throughout the entire tournament against an opponent who also managed to Top 8.

Josh Zearfoss has also punched his ticket to this Fall’s Regional Championships. Another Owl regular, you’ll be hard pressed to not find him here on a Wednesday night for our Modern weeklies. Having played a wide variety of decks throughout the past few years, it was anyone’s guess what he’d bring to the tournament. Today he was triumphant with 5c Domain Zoo, dropping only a single game throughout the entire event.

Check out both Josh and Ethan’s decklists below along with all the other members of the Top 8! Maybe they’ll have some inspiration to help you achieve a qualifying slot in our final Modern RCQ of the season on June 21st!
