This past weekend included our second and final Regional Championship Qualifier for the Pioneer format this year. As the season is winding down, it was the final opportunity for many of our busy competitively minded players to qualify for the Regional Championship this Fall in D.C. As a Premium WPN location, we were stoked to have both finalists qualify for the RC in Washington, D.C. along with winning several other prizes, including Neon Yellow Cavern of Souls promos.
This event was a 5 round event with 32 competitors. In the end, qualifications were won by Nate Hoffman and Albert Liao. Both Hoffman and Liao are local competitive Magic players who are regulars at Owl’s larger events. Both have great minds for Magic: the Gathering and this was far from their first Top 8 at our Game Center. Congrats to both for qualifying!
Hoffman and Liao split the finals. Hoffman played the tried and true Nykthos Ramp deck while Liao played an Amalia Combo deck featuring a one-of Aetherflux Reservoir. Check out their decklists below and what else made the Top 8 of our last RCQ of Season 3, Round 1.
