Last Saturday featured our first Competitive $1k Magic tournament of 2026 at the Owl Central Game Center, and boy did we kick off the year with a banger of a tournament. The last time we hosted a $1k Pauper tournament, we saw a wide variety of off meta decks crack the top tiers, but this time the meta decided to prove why consistency is key for repeated success in these larger more competitive rooms.

Across six rounds of Swiss we settled on a Top 8 that featured the usual suspects; Mono-Red Aggro decks, Terror varieties, Caw-Gates, etc. Notably though, despite a more straightforward metagame, we were lucky enough to not see any true duplicates in the top cut.

After the Swiss rounds, our finalist competed in the Quarterfinals, narrowing the field down to our Top 4 before a split was agreed to, leaving us with the results we have below. Check out the decklists of our finalists!

Mono-Red Rally – Noah Hippensteel (Top 4)

Mono-Red Madness – Patrick Owens (Top 4)

Mono-Blue Terror – Scarlett Chen (Top 4)

Mono-Green Aggro – Jason Hill (Top 4)

Mono-Red Burn – Nathan Kosmin (5th-8th)

Dimir Terror – Ethan Wallace (5th-8th)

Elves – Allen Williams (5th-8th)

Caw-Gates – Kyle Marx (5th-8th)

By the time we were closing up at the end of the day, I had no doubt that many players enjoyed getting to spend the day competing for a chunk of our $1k prize pool. I loved meeting all the new, friendly faces that were checking out the Game Center for the first time. We loved hosting for you and we can’t wait to see you back for our next event.

Speaking of next events, all of this is getting me hype for our next Competitive $1k Magic tournament next month. On February 21st we are excited to host our first Legacy $1k of 2026! We hope you can make it out and take down the competition in one of Magic’s most premiere formats!
